Dark ruby coloured ale which is lightly hopped with a fuity malt aroma leading to a dry bitter finish.

Nice flavour initially, and it's not as heavy as it looks. Unfortunatley after about half a pint the lack of ABV becomes apparent and it can get abit 'watery'.
If you like dark beers and don't want to get hammered give this a try.

Low ABV dark ale, usually something I would avoid but I was pleasantly surprised! A great alternative to Guinness

You cant expect much ABV from a mild, however this lacked slightly in flavour but had a good bitter overtone and a decent aroma.

Reddy brown ale with a malty nose. Slight hints of liquorice within the somwhat hidden bitter/sweet tastes. OK but a little lacking in overall flavour.

Cask conditioned at the Alexandra Hotel ("The Alex"), Derby. Very dark ruby colour, nearly black. Low thick head. Aroma of leather and roasted malts. Very smooth and drinkable with a well balanced roastiness. Coffee elements. A truly enjoyable dark mild!

Tasted this mild in the Saltcot, Saltcoats (JDW) in May 2010. Clear ruby black in colour with a thick creamy buff tan head. Strong roast grain aroma that lingers well and a good creamy mouthfeel. Good lacing throughout. Dark malts give a big juicy treacle toffee flavour which is full in the mouth. Initial sweetness abaits somewhat as drier flavours come through. Black malt is also there with a dusty burnt toast note. The dry theme continues with weak instant coffee and bitter plain chocolate notes in the aftertaste. Bitter hop resins compliment the dry malt element well. A dry liquorice taste comes through in the moreish finish. A very traditional style of mild this, harking back to the good old days. Recommended.
